Sharing a Passion for Education Technology.
Experience
After graduating with a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee, I've continued to upgrade my credentials and expand my areas of expertise through many contemporary education opportunities. I offer over 20 years of experience incorporating cutting-edge technology & methods into K-12 classrooms and tertiary institutions.
I'm well-versed in American, British, Australian, and South American programs including AP, IB, IGSCE & GSCE, HSC, A-Levels, and VHS. Specialties include Blended Learning, Artificial Intelligence, 1-1 & Just-In-Time programs, Parallel Bilingual Programs, Adaptive Assessment, Cross-Core Curricula, Robotics Arduino, and Team Teaching.
Through global experiences, I have multi-language, multi-age, special needs, and TCK expertise. I'm fluent in PC-Windows, MAC-OSX and blended platforms including laptop, tablet and smartphone apps. Smartboard experience, as well content management systems, Power School, Library and SIS Administration software, Google Classroom.
Given how the Covid-19 lockdowns exposed the lack of online preparedness for many schools and districts, my experience with several remote learning platforms and online meeting applications proved to be very beneficial for ensuring functional systems that led to quality learning experiences and outcomes with no loss of academic achievement for my students.
Philosophy
We are witnessing a seismic shift in the delivery of education through cutting edge technology. Rather than hide from progress, I've been actively involved in incorporating the latest in Artificial Intelligence applications into the classroom for both students and educators. I also believe it is my responsibility as an IT/Comp Sci coordinator to pass my research and experience with AI apps and tools to the broader academic communities where I participate.
We've long known that children learn at different paces. They also react differently to varied teaching styles and pedagogic approaches as well as different forms of content delivery and unique classroom settings. Individualized learning—even in the most difficult settings—is now possible through adaptive technology and blended learning techniques that have been proven to not only increase learning and retention but also improve standardized text results. The incorporation of AI into these processes has been especially rewarding for teachers and exciting for students.
A goal for any modern education institution should be to maximize the learning potential and the progressive growth of each student. This is neither fiction or fake news. It's possible now, and I'd like to show you how!
Statement
Integration of technology into the classroom to enhance or change current pedagogies is no longer an option. Technology has evolved in a way that personalized learning and augmented inteliigence applications are not dreams but a reality.
When properly utilized, computers and other forms of technology enhance creativity by allowing students to focus on advancing through their work rather than waste time with mundane repetitive manual tasks. Concentration is increased, communication is improved. Students find it is easier to engage with other students and teachers as they work together to solve problems.
Education is not One-Size-Fits-All
Technology can produce personalized learning platforms and still co-exist with standardized objectives. It enables the creation of platforms that allow ALL students to reach those objectives rather than only the ones who are capable of adapting to a specific traditional method of teaching or content delivery.
But before the students can benefit, teachers must adapt, often a concern for many as each generation clings steadfast to the methods of learning that they themselves experienced. This is where my services are beneficial. By embracing technology and contemporary education apps, teachers have the opportunity to mold their teaching on a case by case basis to different types of students or groups. This provides a dynamic, flexible platform that can be continually modified parallel to the ongoing natural selection and improvement of the best methods & practices.
My short term objective is to implement as many different methods as required in order to personalize education for every student so that they are put into a position to meet their potential and exceed expectations. The long term goal is to play an influential role in fostering a paradigm shift in the field of education so that formal learning is better aligned with our ever-changing world.
Artificial Intelligence: A 21st century game-changer not to be ignored
With the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), education institutions are quickly being encouraged to take a radically different approach by forcing educators and institutions to change the core essence of education with a pace at which many are unfamiliar or uncomfortable.
The access to knowledge through AI is readily available at our fingertips. In light of this, a question arises: Why do we need to spend long hours of classroom time memorizing information for standardized exams when we have instant access to all of it through AI? Instead, why not use that time to teach collaboration, empathy and relational cross-field understanding while addressing real-life problems?
The focus of education should be on identifying and dissecting real-life problems that yearn for fresh solutions. Understanding the types of information and skills required to solve issues begins the process of creating appropriate solutions. Thinking “outside-the-box” needs to be incorporated into the mainstream problem-solving process rather than be relegated to last-gasp alternative approaches. Searching for better outcomes rather than duplicating current norms demands enhanced creativity, fosters life-long exploration, and strengthens the ability of individuals and groups to forecast solutions that will actually avoid future problems before they develop.
If we use an IPO chart as an example, the focus should turn from the Process to the Input (the types of data we need to solve something) and the Output (what outcome we are actually seeking). The process itself is readily available through AI, but we still need to teach students how to understand and analyze problems while collaborating with others to find appropriate solutions.
This is an incredibly exciting moment in history when we can turn education into an effective conduit to mold society into a more humanistic, progressive and satisfying world. Education’s role in society should be to help young generations learn how to think critically, analyze problems, collaborate with others, and find creative solutions to real-life problems. By doing so, we can prepare individuals for a rapidly evolving world that requires innovative thinking, advanced problem-solving skills and empathy for others. It's time to embrace AI and use it to enhance these crucial educational moments.
Previous Work
K-12 & Tertiary Level Global Institutions
UAS
Design & implementation of a new school featuring blended fibre & wireless networking, decentralized apps and security, just in time portable laptop carts, extensive virtual classrooms through the VHS consortium, redesigned K-12 platform integrating technology into core subjects, team teaching and computers for every teacher @ the Uruguayan American School.AISK
Implementation of the Caribbean's first 1-to-1 program in AISK American International School in Kingston featuring Apple Macbooks and a state-of-the-art learning, assessment and administration platform. Included were middle and high school IB programs and US K-12 accredited curricula. Also incorporated were cross-core classrooms, team teaching and flex-testing based on the individual progress of each student.SELE The British education system is utilized worldwide in many nations where the commonwealth once reached. Vital hands-on experience was garnered at the Sele School in Hertford. England's unique system pairs academic rigor with social engagement through pastoral programs wherein the school becomes a community's epicenter. Gained extensive training in the psychology of teaching, special needs programming, GCSE, A-levels, Keystages 3 & 4, etc.
ANGLO A pilot project for blended learning commenced in 2015 at the Anglo School in Carrasco, Uruguay. Selected teachers spanned all four programs: Primary Spanish & English as well as MS/HS Spanish & English. Concepts of team teaching and intermediate group coaching were uimplemented to help teachers integrate technology and blended learning concepts into their classes. Overwhelming success was evidenced by higher student achievement in all testing.
IC International College in Punta del Este opened its doors for the first time in February 2017. We helped teachers incorporated blended learning, technology integration and numerous cloud-based academic tools for learning and assessment. I taught both ICGSE and IB IT. After two promotions, I became the Coordinator of Learning & Teaching Technology alongside with my IB/ICGSE teaching duties.
AISM After many years as a technology coordinator integrator parallel to my own teaching, I wanted to spend more time directly with students to further develop the latest methods and tools that were gaining friction in the education field. In my upper level HSC Computer Science classes at the Australian International School Malaysia, I've used this time to incorporate artificial intelligence and adaptive learning techniques, and I'm researching the benefits of neuro-feedback for academic settings.
